Give a Gift to Support our Students

At Umoja we believe that education is essential to the improvement of our students’ lives as well as the development of Tanzanian society as a whole. Education, however, is only really effective if certain other conditions are met.

While Umoja’s student sponsorship scheme is vital to our continued success, if you would like to make a one-off donation it will certainly never be turned down! Below are some ways in which you can channel your donation effectively.

Essential Stationery Needs

£30 GBP; $50 AUD/USD

A significant part of our costs are associated with ensuring students have the items they need for their studies. This includes exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and rulers. Your donation towards our stationery costs will assist us to provide students with essential stationery needs so that they make the most of their studies.

Student Crisis Fund

£65 GBP; $100 AUD/USD

Most of our students are unable to afford medical care. We assist students by providing small amounts of money to students in need so they can visit a doctor when they’re ill and  purchase essential medication. Your donation to the Crisis Fund will allow us to offer help when it’s most needed and prevent students enduring treatable ailments that can affect both their studies and their long term health.

Library Books

£100 GBP; $150 AUD/USD

Competence in the English language is of the utmost importance to our students’ success. All secondary education and above is taught in English and many businesses will only employ people who are fluent in English. We try and keep our library stocked with a range of English language reading materials including formal educational texts, works of fiction, encyclopedias and dictionaries. Your donation will assist us to make sure our collection is adequate, appropriate and up-to-date, and caters for readers of all levels and abilities.

Become a volunteer

The Umoja Centre is always looking for skilled volunteers. If you have a skill to share please contact us to discuss how and when you can help.

At the moment we are particularly keen to hear from teachers of English or Computer Skills, there is also plenty of work to do in the office.
